One constant of modern business is the threat posed by cybercrime. In this issue, we examine how that threat is evolving, accelerated by AI and its ability to mimic somebody’s language, voice and image through the use of deepfakes.
It is a matter that affects companies of all sizes, but is of particular interest to those CFOs for whom cybersecurity is part of their remit. Our special report looks at the new and emerging threats along with their impact on our members. Among those featured is Niall McCallum CA, who is both a CFO and member of the ICAS Council.
We also hear from Bruce McDougall CA, who shines a light on new cyber-related EU legislation due to be introduced next year. He writes: “The bottom line is that the legislation could have a commercial impact on UK firms if their EU clients decide to stop working with firms that cannot show strong cyber risk management.”
Being up to speed with the latest developments is a key message that we regularly roll out to our members. You can find out more here about updating your profile and preferences to make your communications align with your interests.
Elsewhere in this issue, Alison Cornwell CA sets out her agenda for the year ahead in her first column as ICAS President.
As well as being Group CFO, Alison is the sustainability lead at Vue International. She was also one of the panellists at the second ICAS Sustainability Summit. You can read about the key takeaways from what proved to be an enlightening event.
The summit marked the launch of the ICAS Sustainability Business Network. If you feel passionately about this subject and want to share ideas with other CAs and leaders in this space, then we strongly recommend joining the network.
And finally, June marks the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings. By way of commemoration, we feature the extraordinary story of Alastair Hay CA, who was one of a handful of ICAS members to serve as secret agents in the Ministry of Economic Warfare’s Special Operations Executive. You can read about his heroic life and death here.
Enjoy the issue.
