Welcome to our September issue. We mark our first issue of the autumn with the 35 CA Rising Stars for 2025. On the first page you can see the 31 runners-up, then click to reveal the three category winners and the overall winner.
Having been a member of the panel who chose that 35 from scores of excellent entries, I’m sure I can speak for all of us in saying the judges had to make a number of tough decisions. On the flipside, however, it was wonderful to read the entries and see what these CAs have achieved in their short careers to date. They represent perhaps the most socially aware generation of CAs we’ve ever had.
I would also like to thank those judges – our President, Karen Scholes CA, Dougie Hawkins CA, and two former winners of its predecessor One Young CA competition, Hamisha Mehta CA and Indy Singh Hothi CA – for helping to decide that final 35.
This is the first year we have run a competition like this since 2020, and we promise to be back next year with a bigger and even better event to celebrate our best young talent. Watch this space.
This month we welcome our next cohort of trainees at our student induction day. I hope they will all read up on Rising Stars to enjoy some food for thought about the great things that can be achieved with a CA qualification under their belt.
Another inspiring CA is Martin Murray. You can read about his less than conventional career journey – which led to him receiving an OBE at the start of this year.
Also in this issue we look forward to the first Edinburgh Finance Festival, which promises a fascinating 12-day programme of events – one of which is hosted by ICAS on 18 September. As the story explains, there is simply no better city to host “the Davos of ethical finance”.
And looking further forward, the ICAS Annual Conference is taking shape for November. Over the summer we’ve been putting together an exceptional line-up of speakers and panellists, including former Mercedes F1 boss Nick Fry and award-winning former New Yorker, Vanity Fair and Daily Beast editor-in-chief Tina Brown.
The line-up also features Dame Wendy Hall, Regius Professor of Computer Science and one of the UK’s foremost authorities on AI. You can read our interview with Dame Wendy here.
Enjoy the issue.
