Iain Somerville CA

22 July 1951 – 30 June 2026

William Iain Munro Somerville (M11630) was born in Cambuslang. He attended Kelvinside Academy in Glasgow. He gained his law degree from Glasgow University in 1972 and completed his CA training with Arthur Young McClelland Moores and Co, being admitted to ICAS in 1976.

He continued with Arthur Young – or EY, as it eventually became – until 1988, when he was enticed by the Swedish food group Abba, then part of Volvo, to enter the world of salmon farming. He was variously both Finance Director and Managing Director of Lighthouse of Scotland until 2002, when he joined the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow. He was proud to have helped oversee the finance function including the arrangements to organise the new hospice building at Bellahouston.

Although Iain officially retired in 2020, he never stopped working. He continued his long-standing input as a non-executive director of Enable Glasgow and assisted organisations local to the family home in Killearn, giving his time and skills freely, while he worked remotely for a London-based company, Fathom Financial Consulting, until his death.

Iain was a very keen golfer and this lifelong passion was matched by his involvement with rugby, in which he coached the Strathendrick RFC Minis for a remarkable 20 years.

Iain lived a very full life, making good use of the skills he learned as a CA. He is survived by his wife Ann, children Jennifer, Andrew, Douglas and Mairi Jane and two grandsons, Dylan and Ethan.

Francis McBrine CA

He was working for Baird & Stevenson when he retired and was living in Dumfries at the time of his death. He was a much-loved husband, father, father-in-law and papa who will be greatly missed.
