ICAS recently held two events in London and Edinburgh to tie in with International Women’s Day on 8 March.
Its theme this year is “Accelerate Action”. We know there are still many barriers to women trying to progress in their careers, and in this issue we speak to Fiona Gray CA, a Director at PwC. She says: “To make sure we are bringing up these future female leaders we need to recognise and discuss everything they might be experiencing, from what may seem small things, such as other people’s behaviours, through to the more significant.”
We also speak to Edwina Dunn, who was a keynote speaker at last year’s CA Summit and is best known for having revolutionised our shopping habits as the co-inventor of Tesco Clubcard. Edwina argues that companies that listen more carefully to their female customers will be the ones that succeed in the long run.
ICAS will soon launch a women’s network with the aim of providing women at any stage of their career with opportunities for connection, collaboration and mutual support. Please register your interest in joining by emailing members@icas.com.
Also in the near future, we stage the annual Admission Ceremony next month. President Alison Cornwell CA writes about what it will mean to her to be the person handing out the scrolls this year. And we hear from two CAs who qualified 10 years ago to find out what happened next.
One man who has enjoyed a fascinating career is John Sharkey CA. You can read how he became the Project Director of a $4bn (£3.2bn) sport and retail park in Hong Kong that had its grand opening last week, and why training to become a CA equipped him with the skills to manage such a complex development.
And finally, a reminder that we launched our new website a month ago. If you haven’t done so already, please update your preferences when you log in as a member to ensure you get the best user experience.
