OBITUARIES

Lindsay Buchanan CA

1 February 1954 – 20 August 2023 

James Lindsay Buchanan (M12903) graduated from Heriot Watt University in 1976 with an honours degree in accountancy and finance. He began his training with Touche Ross in Edinburgh the same year. After completion of his traineeship, he gained membership of ICAS in 1979. He was seconded to Melbourne for the summer of 1980, soon afterwards transferring to the London office. He was made Partner with Touche Ross and helped set up the Bracknell office in 1985/86, before taking early retirement in 2002 due to ill health.

His colleagues remarked on him being hard-working, supportive and encouraging to others, especially those beginning their careers. He was known for his illegible handwriting, and love of a good rugby match. He is much missed by his family.

Alexander Clapperton CA

Alexander Wallace Ford Clapperton (M06426) has died aged 89. He trained with Chiene & Tait, qualifying in 1957. He was working for Barclays de Zoete Wedd when he retired and was living in Aylesbury at his time of death. He received Gold Club membership in 2007.

Andrew Cameron Bentley (M05055) has died aged 96. He trained with JW Stewart & Co, qualifying in 1951. He was working for Moorbrook Textiles when he retired and was living in Ayr at his time of death. He received Gold Club membership in 2001.

Iain McGettrick (M26936) has died aged 38. He trained with Hall Morrice, qualifying in 2010. He was working for Hutcheon Mearns and living in Aberdeen at his time of death.

James Mossman Campbell (M08928) has died aged 80. He trained with Wilson, Stirling & Co, qualifying in 1966. He was working for Go Explore (Scotland) when he retired and was living in Glasgow at his time of death. He received Gold Club membership in 2016.

James Muir Symington Risk (M11127) has died aged 75. He trained with Thomson McLintock & Co, qualifying in 1974. He was living in Sunbury-on-Thames at his time of death. James’s CA certificate was signed by his uncle, William Symington Risk CA, who happened to be President that year. His father James was also a CA.

James Thomson Inglis (M07607) has died aged 88. He trained with Hunter Smart & Dickison, qualifying in 1961. He was working for NEI Overseas when he retired and was living in London at his time of death. He received Gold Club membership in 2011. James passed away peacefully with his wife by his bedside.

William Burns (M07146) has died aged 87. He trained with WM Stevenson & Co, qualifying in 1959. He was self-employed when he retired and was living in Aylesbury at his time of death. He received Gold Club membership in 2009.
