This month the membership renewal process formally opens. It is of paramount importance to us that everyone knows how to get full value from their membership, to which end we have produced a brochure explaining all the benefits.
One of CA magazine’s key purposes is to highlight how some of those benefits play out in the real world. For example, this issue features an interview with Bill MacLeod CA, the new Chair of the ICAS Ethics Board. He points out that members working in industry may not have an immediate support network of fellow finance professionals to consult with when faced with a challenging situation. But they can turn to ICAS. That advice can be invaluable.
This month marks 10 years since we launched the Power of One, an initiative that includes guidance on how CAs can lead on ethical issues. As Bill says, “The Power of One is a really good reminder of those general principles that ICAS and CAs should be following.” The article also highlights the Ethical Insights series of articles we’ve produced over the past year, tapping into the vast experience that our members bring to bear on leadership in this space.
Elsewhere in this issue we speak to three members who serve on one or more of ICAS’ array of boards and committees. They reveal why they volunteer and how it has helped them to develop their career. And, for convenience, we also include a handy org chart to show how the various bodies connect.
As part of your membership you have access to a host of events held throughout the year, including the ICAS Practice Conference. This year one of the most memorable sessions came from Ashley Leeds, aka the 15-Minute Guy, who gives lessons in making the most of LinkedIn, which has evolved into the number one social media platform for thought leadership and business.
When you become a CA you join a global network of 24,000 members. But membership goes beyond that. In her column, President Karen Scholes CA highlights the fantastic work done by ICAS Cares, which provides both financial and emotional support to CAs and their dependants who fall on hard times.
Last, but far from least, we talk to Paul Johnson, one of the UK’s leading economists. He is just one of a compelling line-up of speakers at the ICAS Annual Conference on 5 November. Join us on the day – in person or online – to enjoy some much-needed clarity about the year ahead.
